Flora Thompson's memoirs of a childhood spent in the Oxfordshire hamlet of Juniper in the 1880's. An abridgment of the three volumes with very beautiful illustrations, it is one of the best-loved books about the English countryside. The trilogy gives a picture of country life in the last quarter of the 19th century, just as the pattern of rural self-sufficiency country life was crumbling under the impact of the Industrial Revolution.
