This book is called Wigwam stories because the lodges of the Forest Indian tribes from New York across the country to Wisconsin are often referred to as wigwams. The stories are typical of the great mass of folklore of the forests and give an idea of the thinking of these forest peoples, filtered through Anglo-Saxon lenses in mid-twentieth century USA.
