"The door of the Fort slammed tight. Outside in snow and wind was Fiddler Kelly, noisy, quarrelsome, boastful. Inside were the Little People, from the King and Queen down to the smallest leprechaun. And with them was Brogeen, beginning to wish he were outside with the troublesome fellow he had befriended." The troubles of Brogeen the leprechaun started one cold, stormy night when he met cantankerous Batt Kelly and took the lonely fiddler into the fairy Fort where the Little People were feasting. When Batt was discovered, he fled and took with him the Magic Tune with its extraordinary powers to make people sad or happy.

Brogeen, ordered to recapture the tune or make the fiddler worthy to play it, set off to follow Batt, and soon both of them were caught up in wild and funny adventures. Warm hearted Brogeen and his friends are a joy to meet in Patricia Lynch's delightful tale about the Irish people and their folk lore. And Ralph Pinto's illustrations highlight the humor and character of the story.
