A collection of verses about the sea from Byron, Shakespeare, Whitman, Yeats, and other British and American writers of the nineteenth and early twentieth century. Beautiful illustrations and copies of paintings.

This volume features classic poems about the sea and paintings and engravings by Edwardian and Victorian artists. The 75 selections include some written specifically for children by Lewis Carroll, Edward Lear, Christina Rossetti, and Robert Louis Stevenson, as well as those by such poets as Dickinson, Housman, Masefield, Scott, and Wordsworth. The artists, with the exception of J. M. W. Turner, are not well-known in this country. As with the previous books, verse and art are framed in interesting ways, with poems sometimes set into the open space of the oil paintings and sometimes enclosed with engravings on single pages. The eternal fascination with the ocean is captured herein, and the book will appeal to those who love the sea.

Notes
A beautiful book.
