Golden Admiral is centered in the Elizabethan era since it's peripherally about Francis Drake and the Armada. Its real hero is a nondescript Englishman whose sister and mother are hanged as witches while he's a sea. He attempts to free his family members and is declared outlaw as a result. Communication in Elizabethan England being what it was then, he manages to escape and take ship, heading off into some of Drake's adventures during which he succeeds in commandeering a ship of his own.

Since it's Elizabethan times, the Spanish ''Enterprise of England'' serves as the climactic focal point and naturally, our hero manages to capture a Spanish vessel laden with gold ducats and attain a knighthood for his service with Drake and the English fleet during the fight against the Armada.
