There are four Gospels, or Testimonies of the life and ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ contained in the New Testament. These four accounts were written by four of the apostles chosen by the Savior in Jerusalem. These accounts briefly tell of his Mortal life and three-year ministry in the Palestine area.

After he was resurrected, Jesus Christ came to the Americas where he ministered for three days to the people known as the Nephites in the Book of Mormon. During this brief but glorious ministry, he taught his gospel and gave his authority to administer the ordinances of the priesthood to these people.

Some members of the Church have referred to the Book of Mormon account as the the fifth gospel . The author labels this as the first gospel because in the Savior s immortal state, his teachings take precedence to the biblical accounts, which have undergone various translations and transcriptions.

The Book of Mormon account, which the Lord revealed, was a true translation (Doctrine and Covenants 17:6). The account of this record is thus called the Divine Ministry because it is the account of his coming as an immortal, divine being.
