Now we see Thrush Green in winter-time, with snow on the lofty Costswold roofs and firelight flickering through the windows. We meet our Thrush Green friends again, preparing for Christmas, taking sides in the great Fur-and-Feather-Whist-Drive controversy, and speculating about the newcomer who has taken the corner house on the green.
His attentions to Miss Ella Bembridge and Miss Dimity Dean do not go unnoticed by his neighbor and are the cause of mild misunderstanding between the two friends. This and other problems are resolved by the time the snow has melted and winter in Thrush Green has slipped into spring-time again.
