Chalou, a farm dog in French Canada, is trapped on a small ice floe on the St. Lawrence River and carried many miles before he is rescued and can begin the journey home, but on the way a little girl shows him the kind of affection he has never known. The return to the farm leads Chalou to an unexpected destination.
