After the tragic death of her parents, American Phoebe MacFairlie is sent to Scotland to be raised by her father's family. Her relatives welcome her warmly, but the villagers do not. Phoebe's grandmother tells her a story of her family's involvement with another village family and a mystery at a local castle.
