The black lamb, scorned by Granny and treated by everyone else as a troublemaker, is loved and cherished by Jeremiah. With a mind of its own, it runs off the farm, leaving the boy bereft, but he tracks it down after harrowing adventures and manages to take it to the county fair and enter it in the lamb-judging event.
