Written with the unguarded honesty of an eleven-year-old, the story delighted readers with its humor and warmth while helping to impart an understanding of small boys everywhere. Out of print for years, it was brought back in 1967, and became even more desirable when Tasha Tudor eagerly agreed to illustrate it.
