A heathery, doggy and suspenseful Scottish tale is set near Rothiemore on the River Spey and rewards its young hero, Davie, with a dog, the capture of some sheep stealers, and a wonderful spy glass. Fly is Billy Bayne the beggar's pup and Billy, doing poorly, gives him to Davie to care for. Fly's natural herding tendencies delight Davie out on the farm up a valley from Rothiemore, and when the sheep stealers come to the vicinity, both Fly and a telescope from Mr. Buchanan's store play a part in their capture. A good mystery of simple elements and apt characterizations.
