On the night of December 15, 1944, young Adam Wisniewsky and Lisa Wigny hid in an abandoned church which had been taken by the Nazis. Adam trembled in fear, for if Lisa should betray his nationality, it would cost him his life.  That night was to mark the beginning of one of the most vital battles of World War II -- the Battle of the Bulge.

Although Lisa was German by birth, she felt a growing sympathy for the Allies. Now, her father, a member of the Belgian Underground, was ill in Bastogne, Belgium, and Adam had promised to take her to him. But 250,000 German soldiers, moving into position over trails matted with straw to muffle the noise, were to make the journey a most harrowing experience.

On December 16, 1944, came the command -- "Fire!" -- and the Battle of the Bulge exploded into world news. Adam and Lisa became eyewitnesses to one of the most thrilling and unexpected battles ever fought.
