In this story a very poor little boy wishes for just an old worn out brush so he could draw and paint. When he asked an old painter for one, the old man became angry, so the little boy used his world...rocks, sand, etc to draw wherever he could.
One night an elderly man came to the boy and gave him a magic paintbrush and told him to be careful of what he painted. He realized that the things he drew came alive. So he used his talent to help people drawing oxen to help the work, a water wheel, etc. But when the mandarin wanted him to paint gold for him he wouldn't.
