When the British crushed the French resistance in Quebec, Alexis Picard's father refused to live under the Union Jack. So he sent his son on the long trek with the French Voyageurs to find land in the Illinois Country still ruled by France, with the responsibility of purchasing land for his French Canadian family. The journey along the St. Lawrence and Ottawa Rivers, through the Great Lakes to Green Bay, Wisconsin, and into the fertile Mississippi Valley makes this tale of adventure.
