A young reader's version of the story of Captain William Kidd, filled with humor as evidenced by the complete title: Captain Kidd's Cat: Being the True and Dolorous Chronicle of Wm Kidd, Gent. & Merchant of New York, Late Captain of the Adventure Galley; of the Vicissitudes Attending His Unfortunate Cruise in Eastern Waters, of His Incarceration in Newgate Prison, of His Unjust Trial and Execution, as Narrated by His Faithful Cat, McDermot, who Ought to Know.

McDermot the cat sails aboard the Adventure with the infamous pirate and his crew, presenting an inside view of life on the high seas along with surprising revelations about his notorious master.
Notes
Robert Lawson has written four of these novels of animals who were the brains behind famous men ...Columbus, Paul Revere, Ben Franklin and Captain Kidd. They are clever, funny, engaging and pretty accurate historically (leaving out the animal in question), as well as marvelously illustrated by Mr. Lawson.
