Brogeen the Leprechaun, the fairies' shoemaker, has made one of his occasional expeditions into the world of humans. He lives happily with birds and beasts for company until he is given a piece of green leather so thick and soft that it glimmers in the sunlight. From this, he makes himself a pair of travelling shoes, but they have a life of their own and lead him on a merry dance into many exciting encounters.
