After living many years as a hunter and trapper, Richard Hammond married Ellen May in a settlement at the edge of the Kentucky wilderness. When Ellen May is captured by raiding Indians, Richard goes looking for her, killing as he searches, until Johnny Appleseed finds her and leaves Ellen and Richard with a legacy of peace.
