When a young Irish girl's father leaves for America to seek his fortune, she (and her beloved violin) must go to Dublin to live with friends. She does so, thinking it will be only a short time before she sees her wealthy grandfather. But he does not arrive immediately and in the interim, much time is spent with the Widow Rafferty and the five young Raffertys. There are evenings of music, laughter, and dancing, and much talk of politics but not with grandfather. How he at last comes riding into this story is in itself as dramatic and vivid, as it is deliciously Irish.
