This is a great children's book with charming sketches of scenes set in Paris. Mr. Bonaparte bicycles to the bird market on Sundays with his song birds in cages. In his bicycle basket he takes Rosalie, his turtle, while his friend Gaston, a sort of talking crow, sits on his shoulders. Many children and adults too know the strawberry-loving threesome. It is a highlight of any day when the Strawberry Lady comes by to sell her strawberries in the market.

But suddenly Rosalie has vanished. Gaston leads the search, flying all over Paris. Rosalie is well-known enough that a waiter, an artist, and a bookstall man show an interest in the search. But who can find Rosalie, and how? The warm story and sweet ending will be enjoyable to the kids, but the appeal of the excellent watercolor drawings of Paris and French citizens is also wonderful.
