Apple Streusel Bars

Sweet Pastry
2 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup butter, softened
1 egg, beaten
Apple Filling
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup flour
2 tsp cinnamon
4 cups apples, peeled, diced
1 cup walnuts, finely diced

Glaze
2 cups powdered sugar
2-3 Tbsp milk
1 tsp almond extract

Peel and dice apples. Stir in a few spoonfuls of lemon juice to prevent browning. For crust, mix flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Cut in butter with a pastry blender. Gently mix in beaten egg. Spray or grease a 9x13 baking dish. Gently pat about 2/3 of crumb mixture into dish. Preheat oven to 350 and set pan aside.

Apple Filling 
Combine flour, sugar, and cinnamon. Toss with apples and walnuts, and spread onto prepared crust. Sprinkle reserved crust mixture evenly over apples and bake 35-40 minutes. Cool completely. For glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, almond extract, and enough milk to achieve desired consistency. Drizzle glaze over cooled pastry and allow to harden (may place in frig or freezer to cool more quickly). Cut into bars and serve.
