Spicy Black Bean Dip

2 Tbsp butter
1/2 small onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 15-oz can black beans, rinsed
1/2 cup salsa
1 cup grated Cheddar cheese
1/4 cup cream
salt, pepper
1 1/2 tsp cumin
1 tsp chili powder
1/4 cup chopped cilantro
Preheat large skillet over medium heat. Melt butter. Saute onions and garlic together for 3 minutes or until softened and slightly browned. Stir in black beans, salt, pepper, cumin and chili powder and cook another 5 minutes over medium low heat. Stir in salsa, cheese and cream. Using a potato masher, mash beans until desired consistency is reached. Stir in cilantro. Spoon into bowl and serve warm with tortilla chips.
