Chocolate Chip Scones

Recipe Added:  10/27/2012
2 3/4 cups flour
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 Tbsp baking powder
1/2 cup cold butter, cut in 8 pieces
2 cups mini chocolate chips
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla
1/2 to 2/3 cup milk or half-and-half
Glaze
2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
5-7 Tbsp milk
Preheat oven to 425 F and spray or line a baking sheet. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt and baking powder. Work in butter with a pastry blender until crumbly. Stir in chocolate chips. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, vanilla and 1/2 cup milk. Add the liquid to dry ingredients and stir until moistened and holds together. Don’t overmix! If overly dry, stir in additional milk until the dough comes together.

Turn mixture onto lightly floured surface. Knead gently until soft dough forms, about 2 minutes. Divide into three equal balls. One ball at a time, flatten into 7-inch circle; cut into 8 triangles. Transfer triangles to baking sheet, 2 inches apart. Bake 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown. Make the glaze by stirring together the sugar and vanilla. Whisk in milk gradually until the glaze is pourable. Cool scones on the pan until slightly warm. Drizzle glaze evenly over the scones and serve warm.
