Source  Family and Friends
Recipe Added:  12/26/2014
½ cup butter
½ cup shortning
1 ¾ cups sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
3 cups sifted flour
½ tsp baking powder
1 ¼ tsp salt
red and green food coloring
1 ½ cups chopped walnuts
1 oz square semi chocolate, melted
¼ cup candied cherries
Cream together butter, shortning, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Resift flour with salt and baking powder. Blend into creamed mixture.

Divide dough into thirds. Tint one portion pink (6-8 drops red food coloring), blend in red cherries and ½ cup walnuts. Tint second portion green (6-8 drops green food coloring) and mix in ½ cup walnuts. Blend melted chocolate into third portion and mix in 1/2 cup walnuts.

Line standard loaf pan with wax paper. Place pink layer at bottom, then chocolate, then green layer. Cover with plastic and place in freezer until set but not frozen.

Remove from freezer and warm to room temperature, until able to cut. Slice loaf, then cut slices in half. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet and bake 350 8-10 minutes. Do not over bake or cookies will be hard. Store in air-tight container.
