Grandmother Humpherys' Granola

12 cups regular oatmeal
1 cup of any or all of the following:
  • coconut, any kind of nuts
  • raw sunflower, sesame seeds
  • raw sesame seeds
  • wheat germ, cracked wheat
  • whole wheat flour, corn meal
  • bran, powdered milk

1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 1/2 cup water
1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup molasses
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp cinnamon
3 tsp vanilla
Dried Fruit
raisins, cranberries (Craisins)
blueberries, banana chips
Mix all dry ingredients together in large bowl. Mix sugar and remaining ingredients in saucepan over medium heat. Cook until sugar is dissolved. Do not boil. Pour liquid over dry ingredients and stir well to combine.

Spread into  2-4 greased baking sheets and bake at 300 for 30-40 minutes. Stir occasionally. Cool and add dried fruit, if desired. Break into pieces and store in airtight containers.
