Recipe Added:  11/8/2015
3 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp soda
1 Tbsp baking powder
1 Tbsp cinnamon
1/2 cup shortning
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup raisins
1 cup buttermilk (or 1 cup milk + 1 Tbsp vinegar, let sit 5 min.)
Sift flour, salt, soda, baking powder, and cinnamon into a bowl. Set aside. Cream together shortning and  sugar, then stir in beaten eggs and vanilla. Mix well. Add raisins and buttermilk, then stir in sifted dry ingredients.

Drop onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 9-10 minutes.
Notes
I remember as a child when this recipe was made - the quantity was huge. I halved the amounts above from the original card (except raisins: 1 cup raisins for 3 cups flour is a good ratio) and added vanilla. I also added chopped walnuts (because I ❤️ all nuts) and the cookies were soft and delicious.
