Classic Betty Crocker Version
1/4 cup butter
1 1/4 cup flour
2 tsp sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
2/3 cup milk
Cheddar Version
2-1/2 cups flour
1 Tbsp sugar
3-1/2 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/2-1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1 cup milk
1/3 cup butter, melted
Sesame seeds for garnish
Heat oven to 450°F. Cut butter into four equal pieces and place in a 9x9 baking dish. Put dish in oven to melt butter. Remove from oven when butter has melted, about 5 minutes. Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Stir in milk quickly, stopping as soon as a loose dough forms.

Turn dough onto well-floured surface and press lightly into a long, narrow rectangle. Use knife dipped in flour to cut the dough into 12 equal strips. Take each strip and place in baking dish, turning each strip in butter. Repeat with all the dough and place strips close together. Bake 12-15 minutes or until puffed and golden. Sprinkle with Sesame seeds (if using). Cool 5 minutes, break apart, and serve.
