Raymond was born May 21, 1914 in Thayne where he grew up and ran the family farm most of his life. He was the son of Joseph and Ethel Humphreys. In 1934 he married Carol Burton and they were the parents of one son, Jerry Ray.
After he graduated from Star Valley High School he pursued many interests. He was instrumental in building from a Model A car to a small school bus which transported many elementary children to school in Thayne. Before this the children rode in horse drawn sleighs or wagons with a white canvas top. In 1938 they moved to Afton where he had a contract to drive high school students from Grover to Afton. They went to Richmond, IN to purchase the school bus.
In 1942 they moved to Ogden where Raymond worked at Hill Field where he was an aircraft mechanic. He took flying lessons from Barlow Call and earned his pilot's license. He also got a G.I. contract for a veterans flying school and operated it in Star Valley on the farm. It was called Humpherys Flying Service. He had four airplanes. In 1951 he helped organize the Civil Air Patrol in Star Valley, also helping in searches for lost aircraft. He held the rank of Major.
Raymond owned and operated a Grade A dairy farm, in which he took great pride. In 1959 he was employed as an engineer for some new farm machinery. This took Ray and Carol to Racine, WI, Yuma AZ and Brawley CA. where he helped develop a new knotter for a baler. Raymond was interested in and studied about making hydrogen gas from water.
He enjoyed traveling, camping hiking, riding motorcycles, snowmobiling, square dancing, playing the musical saw, guitar, and mouth organ. He loved to fly his airplane until his health required him to sell it. Raymond was married to his wife Carol for 63 years. They had one son Jerry Ray, eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Raymond and Carol also took two Navajo foster children, Karen Mills and Pamela Jamesway and raised them for five years.
