GRANDMA BARRON'S/BLACK'S SUGAR COOKIES
a.k.a. "GRANDPA COOKIES"
1C shortening
1 l/2 C sugar
2 eggs in measuring cup and fill rest of way with milk
1 more egg _
l t vanilla
1/4 t lemon extract
Blend sugar and shortening. Stir in eggs and milk. Add vanilla and lemon extract.
l/2 t salt
1 t soda
l t baking powder
5 C flour
l/4 t nutmeg
Stir flour into above mixture. mixing salt, soda, nutmeg & baking powder into last cup before adding to cookie dough. Keep dough as soft as possible. Roll rather thick. Use a round cookie cutter about 4“ in diameter. Bake until just barely done so cookies are big, soft and tender. May or may not sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 350 10 to 15 minutes.
